42 = 40 x 1 + 2

40 = 2 x 20 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 2, the HCF of 250 and 458 is 2
Notice that 2 = HCF(40,2) = HCF(42,40) = HCF(208,42) = HCF(250,208) = HCF(458,250) .
