Notice that 2 = HCF(4,2) = HCF(26,4) = HCF(30,26) = HCF(176,30) = HCF(206,176) = HCF(588,206) = HCF(794,588) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 18 > 2, we apply the division lemma to 18 and 2, to get
18 = 2 x 9 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 2, the HCF of 2 and 18 is 2
Notice that 2 = HCF(18,2) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 589 > 2, we apply the division lemma to 589 and 2, to get
589 = 2 x 294 + 1
Step 2: Since the reminder 2 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 1 and 2, to get
2 = 1 x 2 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 2 and 589 is 1
