Notice that 2 = HCF(18,2) = HCF(794,18) = HCF(812,794) = HCF(9726,812) .

2063 = 2 x 1031 + 1
Step 2: Since the reminder 2 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 1 and 2, to get
2 = 1 x 2 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 2 and 2063 is 1
