    Define Cumulative GPA Score

Cumulative grade point average is the average GPA score of all semesters in the course. Or it is the average of average of the scores of all the semesters in the college or school. The cumulative GPA is useful to get admission into the college for job entry.

    Steps to Compute Cumulative GPA

These are steps to calculate the cumulative GPA score.

    • Check the semester GPA scores and credit hours.
    • Multiply the semester GPA with the credit hours to get the total credit points.
    • Find the total of credit hours and credit points to get the cumulative total credit points.
    • Divide the total credit points by the credit hours to check the cumulative GPA.

    Example:

Calculate the cumulative GPA for 4 semesters.

    Semester Name GPA Credit Hours
    Semester A 3.8 12
    Semester B 4.1 12
    Semester C 3.5 10
    Semester D 4.6 11

    Solution:

    Given that,

Semester A: 3.8 GPA for 12 credit hours

Semester B: 4.1 GPA for 12 credit hours

Semester C: 3.5 GPA for 10 credit hours

Semester D: 4.6 GPA for 11 credit hours

Calculate the total points earned for every semester.

    Semester A: 3.8 x 12 = 45.6 total points

    Semester B: 4.1 x 12 = 49.2 total points

    Semester C: 3.5 x 10 = 35 total points

    Semester D: 4.6 x 11 = 50.6 total points

Find the sum of credit hours

    12 + 12 + 10 + 11 = 45

Also, get the sum of all total points

    45.6 + 49.2 + 35 + 50.6 = 180.4

Divide cumulative points by total credit hours

    180.4/45 = 4.00

So, the cumulative GPA is 4.0.
