Example 1:

Calculate the grades using Point Based Grading Method.

Solution:

Using the provided information we will segregate the points earned.

Thus, according to the calculations we get;

=> Total Points Possible = 600,

=> Total Points Earned = 551

Now, using the formula:

Grade = Total Points Earned ÷ Total Points Possible

=> Grade = 551 / 600

=> Grade = 0.918, or 91.8%

Hence, we get that student's final grade is 91.8%, which corresponds to A-.

Example 2:

Calculate the grades using the Weighted Grading Method.

Solution:

We will use the above table, in addition, to finding the earned points by the student.

Now to find the Grade we will find the adjusted Grade.

=> Adjusted Grade = Quotient x Weights

Thus for each breakdown we will get.

• Homework : 99.1 x 0.10 = 9.91
• Midterm exam: 93 x 0.30 = 27.9
• Essays: 77.5 x 0.20 = 15.5
• Final exam: 89 x 0.40 = 35.6
• Total = 88.91
