Step 2: Since the reminder 153 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 117 and 153, to get

Step 3: We consider the new divisor 117 and the new remainder 36, and apply the division lemma to get
117 = 36 x 3 + 9
We consider the new divisor 36 and the new remainder 9, and apply the division lemma to get
36 = 9 x 4 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 9, the HCF of 153 and 423 is 9
Notice that 9 = HCF(36,9) = HCF(117,36) = HCF(153,117) = HCF(423,153) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 957 > 9, we apply the division lemma to 957 and 9, to get
957 = 9 x 106 + 3
Step 2: Since the reminder 9 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 3 and 9, to get
9 = 3 x 3 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 3, the HCF of 9 and 957 is 3
Notice that 3 = HCF(9,3) = HCF(957,9) .

64 = 3 x 21 + 1

The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 3 and 64 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(3,1) = HCF(64,3) .
