We consider the new divisor 4 and the new remainder 1,and apply the division lemma to get
4 = 1 x 4 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 221 and 358 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(4,1) = HCF(9,4) = HCF(22,9) = HCF(31,22) = HCF(53,31) = HCF(84,53) = HCF(137,84) = HCF(221,137) = HCF(358,221) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 52 > 1, we apply the division lemma to 52 and 1, to get
52 = 1 x 52 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 1 and 52 is 1
