16 = 12 x 1 + 4
We consider the new divisor 12 and the new remainder 4,and apply the division lemma to get

The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 4, the HCF of 348 and 136 is 4
Notice that 4 = HCF(12,4) = HCF(16,12) = HCF(60,16) = HCF(76,60) = HCF(136,76) = HCF(348,136) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 255 > 4, we apply the division lemma to 255 and 4, to get
255 = 4 x 63 + 3
Step 2: Since the reminder 4 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 3 and 4, to get
4 = 3 x 1 + 1
Step 3: We consider the new divisor 3 and the new remainder 1, and apply the division lemma to get
3 = 1 x 3 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 4 and 255 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(3,1) = HCF(4,3) = HCF(255,4) .
