The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 3, the HCF of 357 and 936 is 3
Notice that 3 = HCF(9,3) = HCF(39,9) = HCF(48,39) = HCF(87,48) = HCF(135,87) = HCF(222,135) = HCF(357,222) = HCF(936,357) .

Step 1: Since 601 > 3, we apply the division lemma to 601 and 3, to get
601 = 3 x 200 + 1

The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 3 and 601 is 1
