392 = 58 x 6 + 44
We consider the new divisor 58 and the new remainder 44,and apply the division lemma to get
58 = 44 x 1 + 14

44 = 14 x 3 + 2
We consider the new divisor 14 and the new remainder 2,and apply the division lemma to get
14 = 2 x 7 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 2, the HCF of 450 and 842 is 2
Notice that 2 = HCF(14,2) = HCF(44,14) = HCF(58,44) = HCF(392,58) = HCF(450,392) = HCF(842,450) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 255 > 2, we apply the division lemma to 255 and 2, to get
255 = 2 x 127 + 1
Step 2: Since the reminder 2 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 1 and 2, to get
2 = 1 x 2 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 2 and 255 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(2,1) = HCF(255,2) .
