The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 17, the HCF of 459 and 5899 is 17
Notice that 17 = HCF(51,17) = HCF(68,51) = HCF(391,68) = HCF(459,391) = HCF(5899,459) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 3813 > 17, we apply the division lemma to 3813 and 17, to get
3813 = 17 x 224 + 5
Step 2: Since the reminder 17 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 5 and 17, to get
17 = 5 x 3 + 2
Step 3: We consider the new divisor 5 and the new remainder 2, and apply the division lemma to get
5 = 2 x 2 + 1
We consider the new divisor 2 and the new remainder 1, and apply the division lemma to get
2 = 1 x 2 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 17 and 3813 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(2,1) = HCF(5,2) = HCF(17,5) = HCF(3813,17) .
