Step 3: We consider the new divisor 84 and the new remainder 75, and apply the division lemma to get
84 = 75 x 1 + 9
We consider the new divisor 75 and the new remainder 9,and apply the division lemma to get
75 = 9 x 8 + 3
We consider the new divisor 9 and the new remainder 3,and apply the division lemma to get
9 = 3 x 3 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 3, the HCF of 495 and 4539 is 3
Notice that 3 = HCF(9,3) = HCF(75,9) = HCF(84,75) = HCF(495,84) = HCF(4539,495) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 1226 > 3, we apply the division lemma to 1226 and 3, to get
1226 = 3 x 408 + 2
Step 2: Since the reminder 3 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 2 and 3, to get
3 = 2 x 1 + 1
Step 3: We consider the new divisor 2 and the new remainder 1, and apply the division lemma to get
2 = 1 x 2 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 3 and 1226 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(2,1) = HCF(3,2) = HCF(1226,3) .
