The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 537 and 466 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(4,1) = HCF(9,4) = HCF(31,9) = HCF(40,31) = HCF(71,40) = HCF(466,71) = HCF(537,466) .
