16 = 4 x 4 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 4, the HCF of 56 and 92 is 4
Notice that 4 = HCF(16,4) = HCF(20,16) = HCF(36,20) = HCF(56,36) = HCF(92,56) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 81 > 4, we apply the division lemma to 81 and 4, to get
81 = 4 x 20 + 1
Step 2: Since the reminder 4 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 1 and 4, to get
4 = 1 x 4 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 4 and 81 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(4,1) = HCF(81,4) .
