We consider the new divisor 72 and the new remainder 24, and apply the division lemma to get

The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 24, the HCF of 576 and 744 is 24
Notice that 24 = HCF(72,24) = HCF(168,72) = HCF(576,168) = HCF(744,576) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 990 > 24, we apply the division lemma to 990 and 24, to get
990 = 24 x 41 + 6
Step 2: Since the reminder 24 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 6 and 24, to get
24 = 6 x 4 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 6, the HCF of 24 and 990 is 6
Notice that 6 = HCF(24,6) = HCF(990,24) .
