Notice that 76 = HCF(152,76) = HCF(228,152) = HCF(380,228) = HCF(608,380) .

446 = 76 x 5 + 66

76 = 66 x 1 + 10
Step 3: We consider the new divisor 66 and the new remainder 10, and apply the division lemma to get
66 = 10 x 6 + 6

10 = 6 x 1 + 4

The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 2, the HCF of 76 and 446 is 2
Notice that 2 = HCF(4,2) = HCF(6,4) = HCF(10,6) = HCF(66,10) = HCF(76,66) = HCF(446,76) .
