The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 5, the HCF of 645 and 875 is 5
Notice that 5 = HCF(45,5) = HCF(185,45) = HCF(230,185) = HCF(645,230) = HCF(875,645) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 994 > 5, we apply the division lemma to 994 and 5, to get
994 = 5 x 198 + 4
Step 2: Since the reminder 5 ≠ 0, we apply division lemma to 4 and 5, to get
5 = 4 x 1 + 1
Step 3: We consider the new divisor 4 and the new remainder 1, and apply the division lemma to get
4 = 1 x 4 + 0
The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 5 and 994 is 1
