The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 723 and 281 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(2,1) = HCF(3,2) = HCF(38,3) = HCF(41,38) = HCF(120,41) = HCF(161,120) = HCF(281,161) = HCF(723,281) .
