Notice that 3 = HCF(6,3) = HCF(9,6) = HCF(24,9) = HCF(57,24) = HCF(138,57) = HCF(609,138) = HCF(747,609) = HCF(5838,747) .
We can take hcf of as 1st numbers and next number as another number to apply in Euclidean lemma
Step 1: Since 2189 > 3, we apply the division lemma to 2189 and 3, to get
2189 = 3 x 729 + 2

The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 3 and 2189 is 1
