The remainder has now become zero, so our procedure stops. Since the divisor at this stage is 1, the HCF of 857 and 552 is 1
Notice that 1 = HCF(2,1) = HCF(13,2) = HCF(15,13) = HCF(58,15) = HCF(247,58) = HCF(305,247) = HCF(552,305) = HCF(857,552) .
