Grade point average is calculated as the weighted average of the grades, Here the number of credits is considered as the weight and numeric grade value is taken from the GPA table. So, the GPA is thr sum of the product of the credit hours time the grade.
GPA = w1×g1 + w2×g2 + w3×g3 + ... + wn×gn
The credit hours w is equal to the credit hours of the class divided by the totak credit hours of all classes.
wi= ci / (c1+c2+c3+...+cn)
Here we are giving high school GPA table which contains grade, percentage grade, and equivalent GPA value.
Grade | Percentage Grade | GPA |
---|---|---|
A | 94-100 | 4.0 |
A- | 90-93 | 3.7 |
B+ | 87-89 | 3.3 |
B | 84-86 | 3.0 |
B- | 80-83 | 2.7 |
C+ | 77-79 | 2.3 |
C | 74-76 | 2.0 |

Solved Example:
Find the GPA csore for the weighted results.
Class Name | Grades | Credit Hours |
---|---|---|
1 | A | 2 |
2 | C | 1 |
3 | C | 1 |
Solution:
Given that,
1st class with 2 credit hours and A grade
2nd & 3rd classes with 1 credit hour and C grade
Credit sum = 2 + 1 + 1 = 4
Credit hours weight wi = ci/(c1 + c2 + c3)
w1 = 2/4 = 0.5
w2 = 1/4 = 0.25
w3 = 1/4 = 0.25
g1 = 4
g2 = 2
g3 = 2
GPA formula is w1×g1+ w2×g2+ w3×g3
High school GPA = 0.5×4 + 0.25×2 + 0.25×2
= 3
Therefore, weighted GPA is 3.
1. How we calculate high school GPA score?
They will calculate high school GPA easily by knowing the current GPA and cumulative GPA. Multiply the weights and grades of each class together and add all those products to check grade point average.
2. Is a 5.0 GPA high?
The unweight GPA scale is from 0 to 4, so here highest is 4. But unweighted scale is like 0-4.5 or 0-5. The high schools which use 0-5 gpa scale makes 5 as thw highest GPA.
3. What is the GPA formula?
The weighted GPA formula is GPA = w1×g1+ w2×g2+ w3×g3 + ... + wn×gn
4. What is the lowest GPA ever recorded?
The lowest GPA is 0.
